NIO Launches V2G Charging Pile, New Pricing Standard for Battery Replacement Services
Shanghai (Gasgoo)- At NIO Power Day 2023, held on July 20th, NIO announced the official launch of the “Power Journeys Silk Road” power replenishment route and unveiled multiple innovative services, technologies and products, including a “flexible battery upgrade service on a daily basis”, new battery exchange pricing and V2G charging piles.
NIO’s continuous efforts in building a comprehensive power refueling network have so far created 1,564 battery exchange stations and 60 Power Journey routes across China. Currently, about 73% of NIO users live in “swap station districts.” The company uses this district to represent residences within a 3 km radius of a NIO battery exchange station. NIO added that about 56% of the total power consumed by NIO users comes from battery swap stations.
Additionally, NIO has now installed home chargers for over 190,000 users, installed 16,745 public charging stations nationwide, and has access to over 750,000 third-party charging stations.

The Power Journey Silk Road opened on July 19th, leaving Xi’an, passing through Zhangye Danxia Geopark, Mogao Grottoes, Tianchi Scenic Area in the Tianshan Mountains, Sairam Lake, and finally arriving at Khorgos Port. With a total distance of 3,133 kilometers, there are 33 charging stations and battery exchange stations along the route, paying tribute to China’s rich historical and cultural heritage.
NIO has already launched 60 Power Journeys routes nationwide. In the coming months, it plans to open more routes, including the Gannan Line, the Qiandongnan Line, and the Xilingol Prairie Line. In addition, NIO will expand its battery exchange network internationally, connecting five European countries, including Germany, Norway, Denmark, Sweden and the Netherlands, by the end of this year.
In order to continuously improve the user’s battery replacement experience, NIO continuously upgrades the battery replacement function. In the third quarter of this year, features such as battery pre-priming, parallel battery swapping and a one-click parking feature to speed up the swapping process will be introduced. Additionally, a “Nonstop Battery Swap” feature will be available in Q4, allowing users to enjoy continuous airflow and an illuminated screen during the battery swapping process.
During NIO Power Day 2023, the “Battery Flexible Upgrade Daily Rental Service” was officially launched. With this service, even when traveling long distances, users can upgrade to higher capacity batteries at NIO battery exchange stations, increasing travel flexibility and reducing long-distance travel costs. The standard rental price for upgrading to a long-distance battery pack starts at NT$50 per day, with a maximum charge of NT$880 for a 31-day rental period.

Meanwhile, NIO has launched a 20kW V2G (Vehicle-to-Grid) charging pile. Not only does this provide fast charging, but it also enables bi-directional energy flow, allowing electric vehicles to absorb power from the grid during times of low demand and release power to the grid during peak times. This interaction between vehicle and grid helps with peak shaving and frequency tuning. NIO will also partner with Qilianshan National Park to build the world’s first V2G photovoltaic self-circulating power replenishment system, which will be put into operation in August this year.
In addition, NIO introduced new battery replacement pricing standards during NIO Power Day 2023. This standard will be officially implemented from his August 1st. Single battery replacement prices are similar to those of fast charging, but the overall experience far surpasses the latter, NIO said.
