2023 Ford F-150 Tremor Wins V-8 Test, Has Towing Challenges

Don’t want to buy a version of an off-road pickup truck without the 8 cylinders under the hood? Ford F-150 Tremor It wasn’t the truck for you until now.

The 2023 Ford F-150 Tremor has a standard V8 engine, with a Turbo 6 engine slid aside as a free option. Ford says you may ask how many years, but people are talking and they want a V-8.

A huge lineup of 2023 Ford F-150, TCC rating is 6.7 out of 10beats all competitors thanks to its many configurations including Tremor and Mack Daddy. raptor, its fantastic powertrain selection, timeless design and innovation in traction technology. But Tremor’s tall rear end presents challenges, his F-150 with front rocker is non-existent, and the interior of this truck is still not top of its class.

Here are the pros and cons of the 2023 Ford F-150 Tremor V-8 that I collected after dropping the kids off to activities and spending a week towing a boat on the lake.

For: Ford F-150 Tremor with V-8 engine

Previously, all Tremors had a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6 engine that puts out 400 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque under the hood. The standard engine for 2023 is a 400-horsepower, 410-lb-ft 5.0-liter V8, with a smooth-shifting 10-speed automatic, all-wheel drive and a two-speed transfer case as standard. Ford spokesman Dawn McKenzie told CarConnection that off-road customers interested in the truck’s performance also wanted a V-8 engine, so the V-8 came standard on the Tremor. The V-8 engine churns understated depth from the dual exhaust system for a great sound.

The Tremor’s EPA fuel economy rating with the V-8 engine checks in at 15 mpg city, 20 mpg highway, and 17 mpg total. These are largely unchanged from the Turbo 6 Tremor rating of 16/20/18. Driving 200 miles on the highway with cruise control set to over 110 mph, I averaged 17.8 mpg. Gas mileage dropped to an average of 14.7mpg around town during 92 miles of mixed suburban driving. The Turbo 6 truck has more torque, which is very useful for the turbo to transfer power (especially while towing), but it doesn’t sound as good.

Cons: Ford F-150 Tremor towing challenge

With a 5,000-pound fiberglass walleye boat anchored to the rear end, the Tremer didn’t blink and had strong low-rev torque for a confident launch. However, the Tremer is 1.5 inches taller than the standard F-150, thanks to off-road suspension and all-terrain tires. This gives him 10.9 inches of ground clearance for the off-road pickup, but also raises the rear hitch and tailgate. My Tremor didn’t have a built-in tailgate step and, let me tell you, getting in and out of bed was a pain as I was getting older. Our drop hitch with a 6.75 inch drop worked fine when connecting the Tremor to our 2017 fiberglass walleye boat twin axle trailer, but surprisingly the drop wasn’t enough for our 1994 deck boat twin axle trailer. I couldn’t raise the trailer high enough to reach the ball. The F-150 Tremor isn’t his ideal F-150 for towing duties, but it doesn’t flex like the Raptor thanks to rear springs and stiffer shocks. If that’s a mission in Truck’s life, nearly all his F-150s, except the Raptor, have better towing gear. If you want to tow with a Tremor, be sure to check how much drop your particular trailer hitch requires.

Pros: Ford F-150 Tremor offers a comfortable ride

Besides, F-150 Raptor With remote reservoir Fox shocks, the Tremor is the most comfortable F-150 money can buy. With off-road shocks (monotube front, twintube rear), large 33-inch General Grabber AT tires, and Tremor-specific rear hub knuckles and upper control arms, the Tremor soaks up bumps on broken Midwest pavement better than the standard F-150. In particular, Grabber all-terrain tires are quieter on the highway than Goodyear DuraTracs and produce less noise on the highway. Chevrolet Silverado 1500 ZR2.

Cons: Ford F-150 Tremor has no front rocker

The F-150 Tremor can get a Torsen limited-slip differential up front for $500, but it should come standard. A front locking differential is not an option, but is standard. Chevrolet Silverado ZR2This gave the Chevrolet a bit more ability to scale rutted roads without stirring up the ground.

Pro: Ford F-150 Tremor has enough design tweaks

The Tremor is similar to the F-150 and less flashy than the Raptor. It’s no wider than the standard F-150, except for the larger all-terrain tires. It gets orange exterior trim bits and tow hooks, badging, darkened headlight bezels and a silver front skid plate along with a standard dual exhaust system and tips. The interior has orange accents to match the exterior, and tremors are sewn into the back of the leather seats. It’s not a big deal, but it’s enough to make it stand out from the lesser F-150.

Cons: Ford F-150 Tremor features second class interior

The $74,040 Tremor I loaded was equipped with the F-150’s trick folding gear selector and a reversible center armrest that turns the interior into a workspace. The clean 12.0-inch digital gauge cluster interface is the same as his other F-150s, and the 12.0-inch touchscreen interface is one of the best in the industry with a split-screen layout. But the leather, the plastic on the doors and center console, the glossy plastic trim, and the finish are all second-rate. rum 1500. You won’t find real metal trim. If the Ram 1500 is first class, this is business class at best.

The 2023 Ford F-150 Tremor remains the best-riding and most comfortable F-150 on this side of the Raptor, but is now available with a V-8 due to customer demand. For those looking for more off-road capability but not wanting to live with a Raptor, the Tremor makes sense, but if you want this to be your primary tow vehicle, know how high you can raise your trailer. A significant drop hitch may be required.
