“We have dealers who sponsor students year after year because they want to keep building the pipeline,” he said.

Ed Linke Chevrolet Buick GMC brings in two automotive service education program students each year, said Tyler Wegner, service manager at a dealership in Centerline, Michigan. The dealership currently has a sophomore, and another is expected to join the company. August program.

Wegner graduated from the program and started working at an oil change dealership. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Automotive Management, he was promoted to Service Manager.

The dealership said it lacked technicians to do specialized work on engines and transmissions, especially for larger vehicles.

Court said the technician program was “definitely a path that opened up opportunities for me.”

He has developed his skills through additional GM training, including GM World Class Certified Technician and EV certifications. This program has helped him find multiple long-term career opportunities in the automotive service field.

Cort said he thinks his career would have been “years behind” had he not learned the basics of vehicle systems through GM’s automotive service education program.

“It really helps me progress in how fast I can run,” he said. “It provided a great foundation for me to continue working after that and gave me a really great career path.”
