Ford hints at electric crossover based on VW Group’s MEB platform

On Thursday, Ford released teaser photos of its new electric crossover due to be unveiled in early 2023.

The crossover is a model being developed by Ford on the Volkswagen Group’s MEB modular platform designed for mainstream electric vehicles. An agreement was reached between the two automakers 2019.

The MEB platform is Volkswagen ID.4 compact crossover, Ford will probably work closely together.Both teasers and early spy shot of clay model A shipping point to Ford, which features a more boxy design than Volkswagen.

Like the ID.4, you can expect Ford to offer a choice of rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. The size of the battery is not clear, but the ID.4 has 62 kwh and 82 kwh battery options, and the MEB platform supports many additional battery sizes.

Don’t expect the crossover to be sold in the US Ford has only announced plans to sell it in Europe, where it is manufactured. Production will take place at the Ford plant in Cologne, Germany. The site is where Ford’s European headquarters are located and where Ford invests his $1 billion in the production of EVs and batteries.

Ford will eventually launch a second crossover based on the MEB platform in Europe. It is described as a sports crossover and could be a more coupe-like version of the first crossover. VW offers siblings ID.4 and ID.5.
