Michigan Offers China’s Nexteer $25.5 Million Pandemic Relief

Use of the COVID-19 relief fund is justified because auto suppliers have been hit economically by the pandemic, according to the state.

“Given the impact of COVID-19 on the company and the operational, financial, and workforce disruptions and challenges caused by the pandemic, the company’s management has decided to develop future investment and workforce strategies with the goal of optimizing reduce costs while remaining competitive in the automotive and e-mobility sectors,” said the memo.

Nexteer, which supplies power steering and driveline systems to automakers, employed 12,100 full-time workers at 26 plants as of June, according to a 2022 interim report.

In the first half of 2022, the company said revenue increased 3.3% to $1.8 billion, while adjusted earnings before specified charges fell 26% to $158 million. Interim report.
