This Year’s Kia EV6 GT Rocket Comes to NA Dealers

We’ve known for some time that a performance version of Kia’s latest all-electric crossover, the EV6, was coming soon, but we weren’t quite sure when. – and it’s going fast.

The Kia EV6 GT was officially unveiled at motorsport gathering The Quail, not to be confused with the currently available EV6 GT line. In addition to getting some very intriguing performance numbers up close, it’s been confirmed that the GT will arrive at North American dealers near the end of this year.

So what’s the big deal? First, the EV6 GT’s dual-motor e-AWD powertrain produces 576 horsepower and 546 lb-ft of torque, accelerating to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds and reaching a top speed of 161 mph. This makes it the fastest Kia production car ever built. All that juice is powered by the same 77.4kWh battery pack found in the GT-Line, but you can’t expect the same range if you leave the pedals on the floor.

Harnessing all that power is a trim-exclusive ‘GT Drive Mode’ that optimizes the motor, brakes, steering, suspension, e-LSD and electronic stability control. There’s also a ‘My Drive Mode’ for those who want to tailor the experience to their liking. Most interesting, though, is the inclusion of a “drift mode”. No, this does not load his AI-generated driving routine modeled after Vaughn Gittin Jr. and other famous drifters. Rather, it just distributes more power to the rear wheels.

A few trim-only components dress up the EV6 GT, but all changes remain relatively subtle. For example, the 21-inch wheels and neon-accented brake calipers may be the most distinguishing features, but we also see a new rear spoiler and diffuser. Inside, there are some GT-specific additions, such as the front bucket seats with ‘GT’ insignia and wrapped in green piping, but that’s about it. The GT comes with many premium features found in other his EV6 trims.

The Kia EV6 GT will be available in the fourth quarter of 2022, with pricing currently unconfirmed. However, it would be a healthy increase over the $57,695 starting price of the current best GT-Line e-AWD.
