BMW recalls K1600 models due to suspension failure

Last update:August 3, 2022

BMW Australia has issued a safety recall over an issue that could cause the back end of the 2018-2020 K1600 to drop.

According to the official notice, the pivot strut that connects the rear suspension to the frame may break due to a manufacturer’s defect.

That sounds pretty devastating and dangerous to us, but we have to admit that given the gravity of the situation, the wording of the recall notice is a bit finicky.

“This can cause the rear of the bike to drop onto the tire, slowing the rear wheel significantly and making the rider unstable,” the notice said.

“Severe deceleration and instability can cause riders to lose control and crash, potentially resulting in serious injury or death.”

Owners should contact their BMW Motorrad dealer for a free pivot strut replacement or contact the BMW Group Customer Interaction Center. [email protected] Or by phone on 1800 813 299.

VINs (Vehicle Identification Numbers) for 106 affected bikes are available for download here When here.

This is BMW Australia’s first recall of the year, following last year’s three recalls, which saw 46 safety recalls, the largest number since 2009.

Your Legal Rights Regarding Recalls

Manufacturers and importers typically contact owners when a recall is issued, but it’s possible the bike was sold privately to a rider unknown to the company.

Motorbike Writer therefore publishes all motorcycle and scooter recalls as a service to all riders.
