World Wide Technology Raceway in St. Louis, Missouri
June 17-19, 2022/8 Mile Event

Report written by Dick Voxel

The crew for this race consisted of crew chief Sharon Hand, Steve Legendre, and Dick Voxel. Not able to participate were Jim Fox (work), and Gary and GT Tonglet, who supported LE on the NHRA pro stock bike.

Chris was very busy with the heavy workload of his business during downtime and diagnosed Patton for an unexplained leakdown after Memphis.

Chris made three complete power plants ready for use, including a repaired “Patton” motor that was ready on the bike.

Chris, Sharon and Steve arrived second from the gate on Friday morning, setting up the pit area and preparing the bike for Round 1 of qualifying. Fire the bike and check it out and it will bark quite a bit.

Friday Q1

There are few tests on Thursday, there is a shortage of traction compound, it rains early in the morning and there are no sticks left on the truck.

They prepare the truck and we receive the call.

Get your bike ready and tow it to the staging lane. We lobby for pushback help and Chuck Stuart agrees to pushback when I’m trying to teach. Sharon runs the starter while I’m squirting, starts the bike, Chris rolls the waterbox, the tires are wiped off Chris begins burnout, the tires start to heat up, and become quiet , No sparks !!

I missed Q2 as a result of getting the bike back, diagnosing the bike and finding problems. Patton has a good leakdown after the burnout is shortened.

I disassembled the first mug, but found nothing obvious. Chris changed the point box and coil. He replaced Mag 1 and a spark occurred. This brought darkness and slightly cooler temperatures, and the ignition system was restored. Chris spins the bike and a spark occurs. Chris and I say we have to look at each other and hear it at the same time! Put the pipe back, check everything, and make a noise at 1:30 am on Saturday. It sounds healthy with methanol.

Saturday Q3

Get your bike ready and tow it to the staging lane. We lobby for pushback help and Chuck Stuart agrees to pushback again when I’m trying to teach. Sharon runs the starter, I run the squater, start the bike, Chris rolls the waterbox, the tires are wiped off Chris burns out and Chuck pushes him back in place. Away from the centerline, click on it to remove it, but you’re in the ladder at 4.953 @ 108.26MPH.

Put the bike back and you can see the leakdown better. Also replace the rear tires.

Chris Hand

Saturday E1

We plan to run Dave Vantine in this round, and Dave will be able to select a lane.

Prepare your bike for an elimination run and tow it to the staging lane. Get up on the line preparing to start your bike. You can hear Greg Polard press the switch on the bike. I look around and nod from Greg to start the bike. Sharon runs the starter, I run the squater, start the bike, Chris rolls the waterbox, wipes the front tires, and Chris burns out. Chuck Stuart agrees to push Chris back again, but there is no burnout from the yellow bullets. Having had a problem starting the bike, he started a quick burnout and backup, and Chuck tells Chris to wait a bit until he catches up with the stage. .. After both the bike’s stage-up and lights flash and the bike looks like it’s stumbled, Dave takes a vacation to Chris and takes off like a banshee. As a result, we are done for the day.

We get the bike back and leak it in the best number of weekends!

I would like to add that the MSD component is one of the most reliable components.

Congratulations to Sam Wills for winning the rainout final over Mark Connor from Memphis.

We also congratulate Larry McBride and his team for winning the tournament for the first time in over a year.

We pay tribute to Mitch Brown and the crew for the very difficult task of changing the engine very quickly to play the finals.

Special thanks to Wayne, Donna Pingel, and Todd Ulhman.

We would like to thank our marketing partners...
