Powerful but Silent-StarkVarg Electric MX Bike Review

Wheelie … Literally, you can run it anytime, anywhere, at any throttle position. (Stark /)

Whatever your thoughts on the future of electricity off road Motorcycles, they now have to fight reality.Motorcycle Electric bike The segment has grown over the last decade, but most options have compromises. Now StarkVarg electricity motocross It seems that the bike has arrived and the game has changed. When I boarded the plane to Barcelona, Spain for the official introduction of Vague, my thoughts were just as high expectations and reservations.

My idea is not necessarily worth mentioning. But for now, my job is to provide an intermediate level off-road rider perspective. I ride MX and offroad every month, but I’m not a ranked professional. Twisting the gang and throttle and exchanging talks with other weekend warriors on the trackside is where I find myself.Me too Alta Owners, and fans of places where EVs can take you when burning options aren’t suitable. I also know many of the weaknesses of EVs. I’m watching Stark carefully, but it’s enough to say that if Varg provides the promised number, it will solve many of my worries.

Some of those issues were resolved quickly. From the moment I first saw the bike when I arrived at the MX Golf facility on the outskirts of Barcelona, it was clear that the design team wasn’t gathering randomly. The attention to detail was evident in every aspect of the Varg, and the fit and finish of the car was much better than I’ve ever seen. motocross industry.

Riding a bike was just as impressive. After 100 feet, it was clear that Varg was another animal. As with electrics, the throttle is crisp and direct, but it’s also comfortable and straight. This is the most direct feeling and the place where most riders start to feel connected. And Varg is literally connected. Riders can not only hear but feel the earth breaking under power. The hump finds their groove and turns the front tire. Hearing all the sounds of every movement while the motorcycle is moving through its environment is a truly different, very internal experience. Without the roar of the gas engine, the rider naturally feels the bike at the same time.

The track layout was ideal for getting used to the new platform. The base is sandy, but after two days of rain it’s almost perfect. The first few laps of the track were a bit hesitant in the jumps and rhythm sections, like Bambi. This is not due to Varg’s performance. The gaging speed of traditional MX bikes is primarily based on gear selection and throttle position. Naturally, Varg is different. At the entrance and exit of the corner, Varg was like a knife and took the line the rider chose to put it on. At times, I felt that I could go back if necessary. I have never experienced such a responsive thing in the soil.

For suspension components, a KYB fork and shock with 12-inch or longer travel and NiCr-coated legs and shafts were developed in collaboration with Technical Touch. Immediately this was reassuring. Stark didn’t waste time on any of the available air fork products that continue to disappoint riders and racers alike.

The integration of the air fork was to reduce the manufacturing cost of the unit. This may seem incompatible with Stark’s goal of not cutting corners on the Varg platform. This sounds strange, but Stark is a “case,” or shortened, and jumps like a dream. This is very important for most motocross riders. If you’re new to sessions, this isn’t a problem, but towards the end of the moto, it becomes a very important handling characteristic. Stark was able to develop a rear linkage that would allow the ship to float and prepare for competition without the long linkage hanging under the skid plate. In other words, there is one less item that gets caught in dirt. This is a great design for enduro use, as linkage is often the lowest catch point for many large obstacles.

The Stark team was confident that the product would be available, so they brought in all of the current 450s, allowing riders to make direct comparisons and continuously test using Varg. Of course, all new 450s will rip. And so was Varg. This was really the most compelling part of the day.For example, excellent GasGas 450, This is a bit easier to ride than some of the other powerful 450s. Despite its excellence, Gas Gas immediately felt a much heavier operation than Varg. The advantage that the traditional 450 had over Varg was, if not perfect, mostly due to friendliness rather than quality or performance. This is amazing. Riding the 450 usually feels like tame a rocket ship, but after two sessions at Stark, the 450 felt quite obedient and sluggish.

Swap back to Varg for a solo lap was awake. Coming from the 450s, it was another good test of how the new linkage design handled the harsh impacts. This was the point when I clicked on everything. The speed gauge was coming without thinking about the gear-based rpm and the lap started clicking. It took me about a day to start feeling everything was fine on the platform. That is, the new normal.

Varg felt like he was at home, where he practiced tight trails, grass turn sections, canyon step-ups, step-downs, and willries. Eventually, when the 20-minute call to end the session came, he had the semi-serious idea of ignoring it. I could really ride Stark until my hands bleed. It’s the most exciting I’ve been biking for years. Oh, yes. From an intermediate level casual rider’s point of view, it could match or perhaps exceed the potential of today’s petrol-powered dirt bikes.

If it’s enough to get your attention, you’ll be glad to hear that ordering Stark online is a seamless process. Place the down payment. Specifies an output of 60 or 80hp. Select a rear brake that is manually or manually operated. Set the rear wheel size to 18 or 19 inches. Enter the rider’s weight in the suspension settings. And finally, choose your color. If everything goes according to plan, your bike will be delivered to your door in a few months. If it works, it’s a long-deferred update to an outdated dealer network.

So: Do I have a house for burning motorcycles in my heart forever? absolutely. That’s how I built my career and fostered a strong passion for life on a motorcycle. But Stark Varg is a welcome and hopeful glimpse of what is really possible with an electric bike.

After a brief overview, I learned that there are many settings that can be adjusted to suit the rider. By the end of the second session, we had reduced the power to 80%. It was perfect for my pace and skill level.

Throttle response is very linear and predictable. It took a few sessions to get used to the lack of gear selection and rpm as a measure of jump approach speed. In the third session, wind noise and vision became my landmarks, making it easier to tackle jumps.
