Mercedes remembers almost a million cars on a bad brake booster

Over the weekend, Mercedes-Benz announced a global recall campaign targeting nearly one million vehicles that it believes could suffer from a broken brake booster.

“We have found that in some of these vehicles, the function of the brake booster can be affected by the high degree of corrosion of the housing joints,” the automaker explained in a statement.

Although the issue is global, the United States is believed to account for about 300,000 vehicles, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has advised to ban the driving of vehicles involved in recalls. Affected units will undoubtedly reduce braking performance and in some cases can even cause complete braking failures. Whether rare or not, NHTSA feels this is too risky and not a coincidence.

Affected vehicles include GL, ML, and R-class Mercedes-Benz products manufactured between 2006 and 2012 (A comprehensive list is available here). US regulatory agencies have abolished the MBUSA recall report basically because moisture can build up and cause corrosion inside the brake booster housing. Planned modifications include having the dealer look at the entire unit and replace it “as needed.”

Mercedes said there were no known injuries associated with this issue. However, NHTSA is very concerned about potential vacuum leaks that can cause problems for people on the road. If the booster leaks, the brake pedal may become muddy or unresponsive, resulting in longer stops on the road. Due to the potential danger (and the risk of a complete brake failure), the agency advised all owners not to drive the recalled model until it has been repaired.

Mercedes first noticed this issue in 2021 and began an internal investigation in the fall.Car makers are at risk Enough to start a recall by May 2022 We made a formal announcement over the weekend.

Those interested in vehicles can either throw the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) into the NHTSA database or use the recall campaign code 22V315000. Alternatively, you can contact Mercedes-Benz (1-800-367-6372) directly or use the NHTSA Safety Hotline (1-888-327-4236).
