Charged EV | CATL Subsidiary Announces Modular Battery Swapping System
Is there a future for battery replacement? One of China’s largest battery suppliers believes so. Contemporary Amperex Energy Service (CAES), a subsidiary of Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL), has developed a modular battery replacement solution called EVOGO, which consists of a battery block, a high-speed battery replacement station, and an app.
Designed to look like a chocolate stick, the Choco-SEB (Swapping Electric Block) is a battery specially developed for swapping. It features cell-to-pack technology (no need for a regular battery module) and wireless BMS technology, and boasts an energy density of 325 Wh / l. According to CAES, one block can provide a 200km driving range.
The battery replacement station has an footprint equivalent to three parking spaces and can accommodate up to 48 Choco-SEBs. The idea is that customers can take one, two, or three blocks at a swap station to meet a wide range of requirements. According to CAES, one battery block can be replaced in 1 minute.
At a recent launch event, CAES announced the first EVOGO compatible vehicle. Soaring NAT.. “In the future, more vehicle models that can enjoy the services of EVOGO will be released,” says CAES.
The first launch phase of EVOGO will include 10 cities.
