CAKE’s new fairing is paper-based

The electric bike brand has partnered with a paper-based fairing punt company to take the future of clean emissions seriously.

Yeah, paper – and the result is also water repellent and fire resistant.

according to MCN, Electric bicycle brand CAKE Joined forces with PaperShell AB – “A start-up focused on turning paper into a durable wood-like material that can be molded like plastic or carbon fiber.”

While these fibrous fairing concepts are clearly not suitable for everyone, their benefits cannot be ignored. The component can be used in wet or hot climates “without the addition of flame-retardant chemicals” and boasts surprisingly strong and dense specifications. What that is, PaperShell AB’s products are very well placed against our own current plastic parts.

The manufacturing process is similar to plastic fairings. The press mold engraves the shell and the material responds brilliantly to bladder moldings. The end result clearly maintains quality specifications while providing paintable gloss, satin, matte, rough, or patterned textures, down to the possibilities of logos and scripts.

The best part?

As you can imagine, everything that comes out of the PaperShell AB mill is biodegradable, and these paper fairings fall into the same category as wood in local recycling / composting programs.
