Electric trial that evolves with Yamaha TY-E 2.0

I first saw Yamaha’s electric trial bike four years ago., And the Yamaha TY-E was certainly an interesting entry into the space. That statement is true only in version 2.0.

That’s why Yamaha TY-E 2.0 has just officially debuted at the 49th Tokyo Motorcycle Show, and our first wave of information shows the sophisticated bikes in Yamaha’s lineup.

The beautiful composite monocoque frame (CFRP) has been updated and the battery pack has benefited from five years of progress, boasting 2.5 times the energy capacity of the previous “1.0” model, with a weight increase of only 20%.

Yamaha estimates the official weight of the TY-E 2.0 to be “70 kg or more,” which is consistent with its internal combustion engine counterparts.

Yamaha has also changed the powertrain and battery layout to lower the center of gravity of the trial bike. Additional changes have been made to the bike’s mechanical flywheels and clutches to improve traction.

Unfortunately, the prototype Yamaha TY-E 2.0 isn’t on sale yet … yet … but Kenichi Kuroyama will compete with the electric bike at the 2022 FIM Trial World Championship.

The Yamaha TY-E 2.0 package looks competent and ready to compete. Hopefully you’ll soon see them at the dealership, whistling in a seriously quiet backyard.
