PeloPics: Saturday’s Omelette Headnews Blood is followed by the semi-classical Kuurne-Brussels-Kurne. The second race of the season’s opening weekend is as classic as any other Flanders race, but can be equal to or better than many big races on the calendar, but has always been poor.
In 2007, Tom Boonen became the record holder by winning the first of three Kuurne-Brussels-Kurne. There are quite a few double winners. Mark Cavendish, Andrei Tchmil, Jan Raas, Roger de Vlaeminck, Johan Museeuw, Hendrik Redant, Fran Werhegen, Walter Plancaerto, etc., but the success of “Tom Boonen” Keeps a record. In 1978, many other celebrities are on the winner list, including Patrick Lefevere behind the current Quick Step team and all its successful predecessors.
The Rabobank team had somewhere else to prepare for the race – Belgian artist Nester’s studio
Return to Tom Boonen in 2007. It wasn’t one of his best seasons, but he won the Tour of Qatar’s five stages and finished second in the GC. After Kuurne, he won the E3 Prijs Vlaanderen, but he couldn’t win one of the five cycling monuments. The best place was Milan-San Remo in 3rd place. The Tour de France scored high points in two stages of victory and point classification. This is the first Belgian since Eddy Planckaert in 1988.

The 60th edition of Kuurne-Brussels-Kurne was held on Sunday, March 4, 2007 in good weather.
Not the usual cold of Leif Hoste and Tom Boonen
The beginning of the race consisted of three riders: Stain Devolder, Sebastian Seedler and Mate Pronk. Six riders, Sebastian Rothlerer, Stuff Shylinks, Stuart O’Grady, Nicholas Mars, Pleven van Hecke and Stain Van Denberg, participated in the course.
Stuart O’Grady (CSC), Sebastian Rosseller (Quickstep) and Stuff Shylinks (Cofidis) chased an early break
After climbing, Peloton tried to fill the gap, but with no success. As the gap narrowed, Pronk and Van Hecke attacked, and Rosseller initially tried to obey but failed. Quickstep continued to track because it had lost Rosseller in advance. When the races came together, Gert Steegmans pulled the easily won Tom Boonen’s sprint.
O’Grady was a hard Australian and in Kuurne ’07 he was one of the riders chasing an early break.
Belgium is not the best country to lean out of a team car.You have to expect smooth roads and expect no rain
Flemish makes them difficult, and they are less difficult than Nico’Rambo’ Eeckhout.21 years as a professional, 2006 Belgian champion
Stijn Devolder joined the Discovery Channel team from his classical experience. The 2008 season was Quickstep winner De Ronde van Vlaanderen, Belgium Tour, Volta ao Algarve. He was part of the early break of the day
Tom Steels was riding a lottery in 2007 – now a DS with Quickstep
Not so much fun behind the race
At the front, Leif Hoste was putting pressure on Bonen
“Tom Boonen” continued to put pressure on the front group watched by teammate Peter van Pels, who was a spring classic and multi-winner.
Preben Van Hacke tried his hand at the finale and almost won
An early perfect lead-out celebrating Gert Steegmans gave Tom his first victory in Kuurne.
No questions to the winner
Happy day for Belgium … Flanders
Congratulations
Boonen with a Kuurne donkey called “Ambroos”.
