Lapland leads Sweden after a reopened victory in SS2 – DirtFish

Esapekka Lappi took the lead in Rally Sweden on a stage that was suspended due to Craig Breen’s end of the contest, ahead of both Ott Tänak and Kalle Rovanperä.

Tenac won his first victory of the season in the Swedish opening test, just 0.4 seconds ahead of de facto point leader Rovanperä. Both Solberg and Lapland were within 1.9 seconds of the lead.

However, 2019 World Champion Tänak admitted that Hyundai’s pace at SS2 couldn’t be fully maintained and that the i20 N Rally 1 was “difficult to balance.”

As a result, Tanak fell from 1st to 4th as Rapi jumped from 5th to 1st after increasing his pace at Toyota.

“I’m really surprised because I was so late on the big road,” Lapland said. “I braked many times on the corners that should have been flat on the big roads, but the smaller ones may have been better than the others.”
