The 60th edition of IMSA’s Daytona Classic is underway
The Wayne Taylor Racing Acura ARX-05 brought the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Field to the green at 1:40 pm local time. The temperature was 46 degrees Fahrenheit and the wind speed was 20 miles, which made me feel even colder.
Philippeal Bukerk was moved forward by Konica Minolta-sponsored # 10 in less than a lap, followed by action express racing Cadillac by new leaders of the JDC Mirror Motorsports Cadillac DPi-VR, Tristan Votier and Kamui Kobayashi. I was demoted to 3rd place. On lap 7, a former F1 racer preceded Votier.
Tom Blomqvist was fourth in the Meyer Shank Racing Acura ahead of two Ganassi Cadillacs, Sebastien Bode and Earl Bamber, and Pipoderani was seventh in the Wellen Engineering AXR Cadillac. However, Blomqvist fell behind the class on the opening five laps.
In the LMP2 field, where the front row consisted of two PR1 Matthiasen Motorsports Oreca, John Falve entered the G Drive race in the APR # 69 Car Vault ahead of Ben Keating and Stephen Thomas, but he started. It was judged that it was cut. Falve’s teammate François Heliu ran behind the duo of PR1 Matthiasen. 5th place was held by DragonSpeed, and Eric Lux started the race in a car shared with Colton Herta, Pato O’Ward and Devlin DeFrancesco.
With nine LMP3 cars starting the race, Jarett Andretti maintained his pole-winning advantage, leading the CR crew and Ephrin Castro in the Müllner Motorsport entry.
The GTD Pro Class was replaced by the IMSA in 2022 by the GT Le Mans and is led by Marco Pelli of the TR3 Racing Lamborghini Huracán. The 911 GT3R was driven by Matthew Jaminet, Heart of Racing Aston Martin Vantage Ross Gun, and # 15 Weathertech Proton Mercedes-Benz AMG GT3 Austin Cindric.
However, Barnicort and Jaminet moved ahead of Mapelli on lap 8, and Sindrick also rejected Gunn.
Jon Miller, GTD leader of the Crucial Motorsports McLaren 720S, ran ahead of all GTD Pro cars, with Frederik Schandorff second in Inception Racing to become McLaren 1-2.
Russellward and Daniel Morado placed Winward and Allegram Mercedes-AMG in 3rd and 4th place ahead of Frankie Montecarb’s Pro-Amarexus.
