Swedish companies want to kick start the Italian floating offshore wind market with dual tilt turbines

Headquartered in Stockholm HexaconDeveloped a floating offshore wind turbine, designed a patented dual-turbine floating wind turbine platform, and established a 50-50 joint venture with a Bologna-based clean energy developer. Avapa Energy Develop an offshore floating wind farm in Italy.

The new joint venture, called Aven Hexicon, will locate the floating wind turbine and initiate the licensing process. It uses Hexicon’s floating platform with a sloping tower (pictured above) and encourages other developers to use dual wind turbines.

Marcus Thor, CEO of Hexicon, said: [via Renews.biz]:

An important part of our business model is to enter new and promising markets as soon as possible and work with local partners to establish both project development skills and technology.

We have found the perfect partner at Avapa Energy. We also look forward to using AvenHexicon to support Italy in expanding fossil-free electricity production.

Due to the deep sea, floating offshore wind turbines are better suited than fixed offshore wind turbines in Italy.

There are currently no offshore wind farms in operation in Italy, but the country’s wind energy association, Anev, has set a target of 5 gigawatts of offshore wind by 2040.
